  3. OCULAR REASONS

  5. Corneal neovascularization
  6.  
  7. If a patient has neovascularization 
  8. from a previous condition or contact 
  9. lens wear, fitting the patient with 
  10. contact lenses enhances the chances 
  11. of reactiviting the neovascularization 
  12. even if the corneal vessels are empty.
  13.  
  14. If the patient is fitted, RGP lenses 
  15. may be preferred (unless the original 
  16. neovascularization was due to rigid 
  17. lenses) since they supply more oxygen 
  18. to the cornea and do not deprive the 
  19. peripheral cornea of oxygen.
  20.  
  21. If hydrogel lenses are fitted, use a thin and medium to high water content lens to increase oxygen transmissibility.
  22.  
  23. The patient should not be wearing the lenses on an extended wear schedule.
